Lampard Praised Werner’s Performance

Frank Lampard is excited about how Timo Werner has adapted at Chelsea after the striker scored two penalties in the first half in a 3-0 Champions League win over Rennes.

Werner scored the opening goal in the 10th minute after being dropped by Dalbert, who was later sent off for a second yellow card as the ball hit his hand in the penalty box, allowing the 24-year-old to score his second goal.

Tammy Abraham completed Chelsea’s victory as they scored seven points and topped Group E, sharing points with Sevilla.

The two penalties were two attempts from Werner, but he failed to create a chance for his teammates.

However, despite the lackluster performance, the two goals saw Werner have scored seven goals in all competitions since migrating from RB Leipzig.

“He is quick to adapt and he is easy to handle. He works and plays well. I feel he has endurance for 90 minutes. I am very happy with him.”

Lampard also confirmed Werner – who scored against Krasnodar last week – is now the top choice to take a penalty kick – replacing Jorginho.

“I talked to Jorginho first because he performed brilliantly,” he said. “I feel it’s time to make a change.”
