Lampard Praises Mendy And Silva
Frank Lampard praised the defensive line lined up by Thiago Silva and Edouard Mendy after Chelsea drew a goalless draw against Sevilla in the Champions League (UCL).
The Blues’ previous action saw them conceded three times as Southampton managed to share points at Stamford Bridge, but they looked more powerful in their first try in Group E.
Lampard made three changes in the defensive line from last Saturday, bringing Reece James as a right-back, Mendy as goalkeeper and Silva as a defensive pillar.
He praised the two players, who he believes have been able to make a significant impact in Chelsea’s defense since arriving in the team this season.
“This is something you always fight for and I mentioned it before about the line-up we have now,” Lampard said.
“Thiago I think shows the things I have talked about, experience and quality; Mendy may have denied the best attempts of the opposing team.
“We face a very good team, a very organized defense. They give you a lot of threats, they are very good.
“We conceded in the last minutes of the previous match and lost two points. The most important thing is to make sure it does not jeopardize our performance in the next match, overcoming the situation gives confidence.
“We’re going to play better, I always talk about the same thing, but we don’t have players pairing up more often
“More often we do, we will feature more natural games.”
